BloggerTalk With Stephanie Toms | Misspap
We love Stephanie Toms’ down to earth personality and honesty, as well as her super sass-worthy style and fierce make-up skills. Joining the blogosphere only two years ago over on Coco Chic, Steph has carved a blogging career from as she puts it; 'learning to accept who she is, flaws and all'. We caught up with Steph exclusively on #BloggerTalk to uncover her styling tips and blogging motivation.
WHO IS YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION?
My style has changed a lot in the past year and so have my style inspirations, but one person's look I'll always lust after is Emmanuelle Alt - the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris. On days off my default look is always a pair of skinny jeans, a baggy tee, pumps and a leather jacket. I got that from her!
WHAT IS YOUR VERY BEST STYLE TIP?
Of course my style tip is to wear whatever you feel comfortable in, but I also think it's so important to wear what fits you. Just because something says it's a size UK8, doesn't mean it fits you like one. Don't worry about sizing up (or down). No one's going to look at the label inside your jeans, they'll just look at how good you look in them.
WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT BEING A BLOGGER?
The best part about being a blogger is the fact that it's quite simply a hobby I get paid for. You always hear the saying 'get a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life' and it's so true. I've met so many friends through blogging, been given so many amazing opportunities because of it, and it's also helped me grow as a person. Never underestimate how therapeutic it can be writing down your feels - especially for all the world to see.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEBODY WANTING TO BECOME A BLOGGER?
My advice is to just do it. I never started a blog because I was worried about what others would say about me. When I finally did start, yes, there were people that made fun of me, but it's something you get over a lot quicker than you'd imagine. Blogging can open up so many doors for people our age now. Yes it's awkward posing for pictures and yes sometimes you do feel like you're just writing a blog post out to nobody, but it's in the early stages you can learn about where you want to take your blog. I wish I started mine sooner.
WHAT'S YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR SOMEBODY WHO SAYS THEY HAVEN’T GOT A PARTICULAR STYLE?
Embrace it! Not following any particular style is a style. For years I would wear really boyish clothes because I thought anything remotely feminine would look stupid on me. Now, white floaty dresses are my fave thing to wear! If you don't feel like you have an exact style then play around with it. Try out every different look that takes your fancy and have fun with it!
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT FAVOURITE MISSPAP PIECE AND WHY?
My fave piece would have to be the faux suede biker jacket I'm wearing in one of my latest posts! Even with my new-found feminine style I can never say no to a good old motorcycle jacket. This tan coloured one is completely unlike anything else I own!
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR TAKING THE PERFECT INSTA SELFIE?
A good window! Lighting is key when it comes to taking any kind of photo, but natural lighting is especially amazing is you're getting your selfie on. A lot of people think you need fancy lights to have a well-lit selfie, but all you need is a spot of daylight!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I'd say it's a mixture of boho and biker - if I had to put it into words. I love my faux leather trousers and I'll always favour a chunk pair of boots over sparkly sandals, but I always like to add a bit of femininity to my looks, whether that be a lace cami top or crochet bardot!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE EDITING APP?
It's not so much an app, but whenever I'm bulk editing pictures from home I'll use Lightroom. It's my favourite thing to edit all my pictures in! If I am on the go though I tend to use Snapseed because it's quick, easy, and effective!
WHO IS YOUR CURRENT FAVOURITE FASHION BLOGGER AND WHY?
I think Sarah Ashcroft is killing it at the moment. Our style is pretty different but I adore her content. The girl knows how to pose!
WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU STEPHANIE?
Right now I'm putting a lot more focus into my Youtube channel, which is something I hope to take a bit more full-time in the future. Other than that, I'm currently working on my second book, The Blogger Journal, for its launch in December. Last year's was so successful so I'm really hoping to make this year’s even better!
