BloggerTalk With Laura Potter - Tiny Twisst | MissPap
When it comes to balancing your blogging game, Laura Potter of the lifestyle blog and YouTube channel Tiny Twisst has it sussed. In this month's #BloggerTalk Laura talks all things style inspiration, blogging and editing.
WHAT IS YOUR VERY BEST STYLE TIP?
Be you. I have spent years trying to stick to trends and even though that's part of fashion, you have to remember to inject some of you in the trends too. Dressing for yourself and your body shape is the first step, then add some of the trends in after - a good way to stay true to yourself and still be comfortable.
WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT BEING A BLOGGER?
Definitely getting to interact with my readers. I love that I get comments and it's almost like a big group of friends, just online! Of course working with some of my favourite brands is a pretty cool perk too. I have to pinch myself constantly to believe this is my job!
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BEING AN INSTA-GRAMMER AND A BLOGGER?
I'm not sure there's huge differences anymore, as Instagram is slowly turning more into what blogging used to be - especially now you can upload multiple images. I guess for me, an Instagram is just one photo of an outfit whereas a blog tells a story and is more like an editorial shoot you might see in a magazine. I love reading through blogs, I guess they are slightly more personal too.
HOW HAVE BLOGGING OPPORTUNITIES CHANGED OVER TIME?
I definitely think the opportunities are more amazing now. When I first started my blog, brands didn't do events for bloggers whereas now some of them are amazing - afternoon tea on a bus tour for example!
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEBODY WANTING TO BECOME A BLOGGER?
I was asked this recently, alongside another blogger. My answer was that I think when you're starting a blog, you have to love it. You have to love writing, shooting, talking about a subject and you need passion. I didn't start my blog for a career, or freebies - I did it because I LOVED it and the career part followed. It started a debate that you have to work hard and want to be famous, want free things. But I think that's wrong, you have to love it to get anywhere otherwise it's fake. People can see right through fakeness, I think.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I would say it's girly, with a rocky edge. I love pairing cute girly frill dresses with big black boots. Leather with studs and a cute blouse.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE EDITING APP?
VSCO! Definitely! The filters are my favourite ones.
WHAT'S YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR SOMEBODY WHO SAYS THEY HAVEN’T GOT A PARTICULAR STYLE?
I think everyone has a style, you just have to embrace it! If you like striped t-shirts, ripped jeans, hats, tan bags... that's your style! I think we all get caught up thinking we have to be super fashion led, but actually it's cool to like what you like! If you see a dress you like, buy it, embrace it!
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT FAVOURITE MISSPAP PIECE AND WHY?
I love the Fiona Blue frilled dress! I think the shape is beautiful and I'm so into flared sleeves right now - they bring out my boho side! Also love this soft grey/light blue shade and think it will go with so much I already have in my wardrobe.
WHO IS YOUR CURRENT FAVOURITE FASHION BLOGGER AND WHY?
I love Pages By Megan because I love every one of her outfits. She manages to make simple pieces stand out and she doesn't always wear designer - a lot of it is affordable!
